A well designed piece of joinery makes spaces into rooms for habitation.

We look at joinery as a scaled down piece of architecture that unlocks the potential of the property’s arrangement. In places with a high demand on land, a well designed made-to-measure or built-in furniture will always greatly improve a property. It is a great way to efficiently use limited space, compared with buying standard furniture, and it provides the opportunity to create something unique, both in terms of appearance and in terms of functionality.

Most architecture practices should be able to assist you with creating bespoke and fitted joinery. Usually an outline design is created, which is sent to a workshop for final designs and pricing. This is how we used to do it. The problem with this route is the price and potential problems with coordination.

During the refurbishment and extension of our own property we experimented with furniture manufacture and created several bespoke pieces ourselves. By utilising the power of computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacture (CAM) we are able to take the design straight out of the drafting software and over to a digitally operated router, a CNC. This creates a kit of parts, a three dimensional construction set, that is first assembled and then installed on site.

In 2024 we decided to provide this as a service to our clients and founded Ten & Sen. We now provide a full design, manufature and installation service in conjunction with architectural design.
